Castaways by Branch.GG is a sandbox adventure game available for web browsers, released in 2022. It has had some viral moments on social media and Twitch since launch, but as a small studio release, its daily player base is likely modest, in the low thousands, and has probably stabilized post-launch. Ongoing development and updates may keep a core community active, but the lack of a major publisher or wide platform presence constrains larger growth.

Second Life is a long-running sandbox virtual world released in 2003 by Linden Research. Its mainstream popularity peaked in the late 2000s, but it retains a loyal user base thanks to its unique user-created content and social interaction. It is still supported and receives regular updates, but its daily player base is much smaller than during its peak years. Current estimates place its daily active users in the tens of thousands.
