'There' is a social sandbox virtual world originally launched in the early 2000s, with its 2012 re-release by Makena Technologies. Once considered a competitor to Second Life, its player base has greatly declined due to age, limited updates, and competition. It maintains a small niche community, primarily loyal enthusiasts, but is no longer a major active social MMO. The game does meet the MMO criteria with a persistent online world and social sandbox features.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is a long-running online action RPG from Sega, released in 2012 and with continued niche popularity, especially after the launch of PSO2: New Genesis. Its daily active player base is much lower than its peak, but it maintains a dedicated core, especially in Japan and among global fans due to regular updates. However, its age and the split between original PSO2 and New Genesis has reduced player numbers.
