Onmyoji VS New World: Aeternum

Onmyoji is a turn-based strategy RPG developed by NetEase Games, launched globally in 2018. Although it was very popular during its first couple of years, its player base has declined but remained stable due to ongoing updates, events, and NetEase's strong support in Asian markets. As a mobile-centric RPG with gacha elements, it retains some loyal daily players, especially in China and among global fans. However, it is not a traditional MMO as it lacks a persistent shared world with massive simultaneous player interactions, so it does not meet strict MMO criteria.

New World, now known as New World: Aeternum, was released in 2021 by Amazon Game Studios and quickly attracted a large launch audience, but experienced a significant decline after its first year due to content and technical issues. However, ongoing updates, expansions, and a recent console launch (with PlayStation 5 support) have provided periodic population boosts. As of mid-2024, it maintains a modest but stable daily population for a modern MMORPG, typically ranging from 30,000 to 60,000 daily players across platforms.
